Impact of Deforestation on our Environment
Deforestation has a huge impact on our environment. Trees play an important role in our lives.
- They take in Carbon dioxide and convert it into Oxygen, which we need for breathing.
- If it was not for trees, we could be deprived of Oxygen! Forests
provide natural habitats for a number of animals and birds. Without trees and forests, these animals and brids would loose
their natural homes. Imagine loosing your home and having nowhere to go!
- Deforestation also impacts the water balance of the earth.
If we keep cutting trees, the rainwater will no longer be absorbed by the earth, leading to large scale of floods and
destruction.
Energy Demand
Our lifestyle causes a lot of demand on energy sources. Here is a list of things which cause high energy Demand.
- Electricity used in houses and offices is generated using fossil fuels such as Natural gas and Coal. This increased the
carbon emmisions.
- Heating is most houses and offices is run by boilers which run on Natural gas.
- Our modes of transport - cars, buses, trains - all use Petrol and diesel which are very harmful for the Environment
Food choices
Our food choices also have a huge impact on the environment.
- In the UK, we get our strawberries from Spain, we get our
cheese from France, our coffee from far away places in Africa and Asia. This effects the environment as these countreis
are far away and so we have to transport these food items from far. Most of these transport mediums add to the Carbon
emmisions, which i will talk about later.
-
We insist on getting the freshest and finest food. This requires a lot of plastic packaging, which also has a huge impact
on environment. The growing food demand forces farmers to use more pesticides and chemicals, which impacts the environment and natural
habitats for insects and worms.
Impact of Plastic on our Environment
Plastic has a negative impact on our environment.
- A number of plastic bottles are non-recyclable,
and a large proportion of them either end up in the sea or get dumped in the landfill.
- The ones dumped in the
sea have a huge impact on our marine life. A number of fish die because they choke on the plastic.
-
Other smaller bits of plastic get consumed by fish and thereby enter the human food chain. People who eat fish
end up consuming plastic infested fish, which is damaging for the fish as well as the human beings who eat the fish.
